The Most Beautiful Music – La Traviata at Seattle Opera

People are getting pretty worked up about the unusual production of La Traviata currently playing at Seattle Opera. But really, the production isn’t very important. What really matters about La Traviata is the music, that exquisite, heavenly music.

January can be tough for those of us living in the Pacific Northwest (and in the Nordic countries – hello, Icelanders!). The holidays are over and there’s not much to look forward to until spring. Kids go to school in the dark and grownups go to work in the dark and by the time they go home, it’s dark again. Days can go by without seeing the sun.

Me, I kinda like the dark. Most of the time. But I’m glad there’s a summer to look back on and look forward to.

My 2016 in Books

In true 2016 fashion, my year in books was pretty bad. In 2015, I set a goal of reading 50 books, hit it in September, and tacked on another 25 at the end. My ambition inflated by that success, I set a goal of 100 books this year. And I failed miserably.
